Hiram A. Hitler, deceased, was a representative citizen of Kenosha County from 1878 up to the time of his death, which occurred about sixteen years later. He was born in Circleville, Ohio, February 27, 1851, and was indebted to the public school system of that locality for the educational privileges which he enjoyed. He worked upon his grandfather's farm until twenty-two years of age and upon removing westward settled at Princeton, Wisconsin, where he remained for two years. In 1878 he arrived in Kenosha County and made investment in forty acres of land in Somers Township, upon which he took up his abode, there continuing to reside until his demise in January, 1894, when he was laid to rest in the Oakwood Cemetery. He had displayed marked energy in carrying on his farm work and had brought his fields to a high state of cultivation so that excellent success rewarded his efforts.
On the 4th of March, 1879, Mr. Hitler was married Miss Helena Ozanne, a daughter of James Ozanne, and they became the parents of one child, Clinton, born August 10, 1881. Mr. Hitler was identified with the Knights of Pythias at Kenosha and with the Woodmen camp at Somers. He became a Christian but a few weeks before his death and although he was not a member of any church, had he lived he would have joined the Methodist church. In politics he was a Democrat, active and influential in the work of his party, and served as chairman of the county central committee.
